Overture for World Peace

I’m human.
I live with other living beings.
I’m a part of Nature.
I’m for good deeds and solidarity.
I’m against injustice and violence.
I have rights as a human,
and duties for world peace.
May contributions lead to contributions.

Earthmates’ Magazine

On Facebook, initially.
Thanks to Dušan Gojkov,
Founding Editor-in-Chief of Balkan Literary Herald,
we are preparing an e-magazine
which should hopefully be on paper as well:
thus a p-magazine

Section 6

Earth Civilization (EC)

A higher civilization is in progress,
inspired by the awareness of the limits of our planet
and the possibilities of ‘glocal’ (global and local) solidarity.

Section 7

EC Goal-Path

Glocal (global and local) synergy
in harmony with Nature, Animal and Human Rights.

Section 8

EC Volunteer

‘On our home planet, I am also responsible.’
If you think so, you can consider yourself an EC Volunteer.

Every religion is a goalpath,
but not every goalpath is a religion.
EC goalpath is compatible with humanistic interpretations of many religions.
So you can be an EC Volunteer
no matter what your religious affiliation has been.

Section 9

EC Network

We are volunteers who contribute to the Earth Civilization in progress.
We uphold human rights, peace with justice,
environmentally sustainable human development and related values.
We think better global synergy is necessary.
So we have formed a network.
The EC Network is not an ‘alternative’ organization.
It is a synergy platform.
Our members are already busy doing good things
individually and/or in an organization.

Section 10

Earthmates’ Café

We exchange info and ideas at Earthmates’ Café
Thanks to our synergy, each of us can be more fruitful.

Earth Civilization Project (ECP):

For thousands of years, countless people have wished and
worked for a peaceful world society.
Today we have the potential to realize that goal
instead of falling victims to destructive measures.
Like any other goal, a project is necessary.
The EC project needs to be simple
in the complex dynamic world: Simplex.
It needs to combine local and global: Glocal.
Fruitful simplex glocal synergy.
An architect’s project for a building can be in detail.
The EC Project cannot be like that.
Many people can always dream of and produce projects.
What is singular in a sentence is usually plural IRL -in real life.
The word ‘project’ is a bridge
between a utopian approach with a realistic approach.
It is a daily word, ordinary, which is good.

Section 12

Many values and ideas as well as material means are available.
Paul Raskin’s book Journey To Earthland is among major contributions.

Section 14

The 17 Goals for Sustainable Development set by UN, UNESCO:

UNESCO’s 17 Goals -in addition to preserving the world cultural treasures- are:
1 No Poverty, 2 Zero Hunger, 3 Good Health and Well-Being, 4 Quality Education,
5 Gender Equality, 6 Clean Water and Sanitation, 7 Affordable and Clean Energy,
8 Decent Work and Economic Growth, 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure,
10 Reduced Inequalities, 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities,
12 Responsible Consumption and Production, 13 Climate Action, 14 Life Below Water,
15 Life on Land, 16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions,
17 Partnerships for the Goals.

Goals 3,4,5 and 17 imply all the others.

In 2013, a Declaration of Earth Civilization Project written by T Günersel
and supported by several friends from various parts of our planet.
It was published on Sampsonia Way, the online journal for Freedom of Expression and Literature
published by City of Asylum, Pittsburgh - in August 2013.

The 2015 presentation at Slippery Rock University in Pittsburgh, USA, is on YouTube:
https://youtu.be/tkA0bMHSx88

Here it is -with a few minor changes
Such as saying ‘Eartmates’ instead of ‘Earthlings’
and adding the names and websites of a few more international organizations.
I’ve ‘versified’ the text to make it more reader friendly
and divided the declaration into brief parts with numbers

Declaration of Earth Civilization Project

Foreword

Billions of people have contributed to enrichment of life,
and hardly any idea can be claimed to be truly original–
in the sense of being out of nowhere.
Sometimes various atoms of thought get together with certain energies
and lead to fruitfulness.
Earth Civilization Project is one such step,
which will hopefully cause positive chain reactions.

Wait and see? No. Do and see.

If you share the basic approach in the Declaration, then
you can consider yourself a part of the open-ended and
enriching process called Earth Civilization in Progress.
May contributions lead to contributions:

Statement

Dear Earthmates,

We, the undersigned, declare that we have decided to become
“co-travelers” in order to contribute to the formation of
an Earth Civilization (EC),
which will probably take a few centuries.
Some of the roots of EC already exist:
Our rich multicultural heritage, in harmony with

* The Universal Declaration of Human Rights:
https://www.un.org/en/about-us/universal-declaration-of-human-rights
and with the goals of

* UNESCO
https://www.unesco.org/en

* Future of Humanity Institute - Oxford University

* Great Transition Initiative: A lot to learn from monthly topic-oriented papers:
https://greattransition.org

* Greenpeace International:

* International Federation For Human Rights

* Anti-Slavery International

* International Press Institute (IPI)
https://ipi.media

* International Theater Institute (ITI)

* Monthly Review -an independent eco-socialist magazine

* PEN International

* The Earth Institute - Columbia University

* The Global Citizens’ Initiative
https://www.googleadservices.com/

* World Animal Protection

* World Parliament and Earth Federation
http://worldparliament-gov.org/earth-federation

-in addition to universities, cultural institutions,
networks and formations such as Wikipedia and Open Culture,
as well as concerned individuals and media.
(A very short and insufficient list, indeed.)

A democratic world can be built,
as a necessary component of EC.

This declaration is also an invitation to you,
to all concerned Earthmates and institutions.
We, as contributing individuals, may not see “the result,”
but each step is a result in itself,
which will encourage further progress.
Earth Civilization is not something that can ever be claimed
to have developed completely.
It is a process, a work-in-progress.
We are aware that such a mission needs contributions
from not only hundreds,
or even millions of people, but, ideally, from billions.

We are not unaware of the harsh and bitter facts of life,
such as severe inequalities, child abuse,
unfair treatment of women, lack of various freedoms,
terrible judiciary systems, despotism,
racism, exploitation, causing wars for the sake of profit... On the contrary:
We are among those who not only see and mention such facts,
but also do something about them.
Our idea of the Earth Civilization in progress
is organically related to such harsh facts of present life,
responsibility, and hope.

Various groups and mentalities have different
–and sometimes conflicting–histories.
Problems could be re-evaluated for the sake of
a peaceful future in harmony
with human rights, democratic values and nature.
Humans can collaborate in the formation of
a common cultural denominator
– ever to be enriched.

History is full of beliefs that have gone out of fashion.
Openness to revise our assumptions
is one of the values we share.

Thus we start, hoping to meet you on the way,
on a path which needs to be built as we go.
The countries mentioned in the list of signatories imply
not our boundaries or limits
or where we live but simply our unchosen
(but not meaningless) origins on our planet.
We trust that our “open group” will widen,
enabling more interaction and output
in our joyful attempt to embrace all contributions in all fields.

Optimistically–not in the sense that the future will automatically be better,
but that it can be better if we do something about it.

EC Synergy

depends on all the good deeds of concerned Earthmates

Dear Earthmate,
if you wish, you choose to call yourself
an EC Volunteer,
you can of course act by yourself
and/or you can start an EC Circle, ideally
multicontinental,
multidisciplinary,
multigenerational.
A group of free-thinking volunteers.

Maybe our EC Network can grow as a platform of EC Circles.
A round table of round tables.
‘A team of teams’ -as mentioned in a book.

You could also consider yourself an EC Citizen.
A symbolic title.
You can of course keep and mention your official citizenship.

Contact? For suggestions and questions?
For now tgunersel@gmail.com please.
The feedback might be as brief as possible:
Such as:
1) Thank you
2) Will consider it
3) All the essential information is here

May contributions lead to contributions.

Tarık Günersel

Initiator and co-founder of EC Network

We are thankful to Mr Mürsel Demirten. the co-founder of Yeni Hayat, for helping us with this website :)
